Catherine Eyers has led significant change in a small school, within a short period of time and with limited resources. It’s been driven by her firm belief that school culture is the most important factor when creating lasting change. Under her leadership, Bethania Lutheran School has gone from having a traditional model to being characterised by an innovative and engaging learning landscape, where a strong collaborative teaching culture is fostered and staff members are equipped with the tools necessary to deliver the contemporary education about which she is passionate.
Eyers is a strong believer in the importance of investing in teachers to support their access to the most current and innovative professional learning experiences. She gives her staff permission to take risks and plan boldly when designing new and engaging learning experiences for students.
The meaningful and lasting change that has occurred under Eyers’ leadership has seen the school regularly attract visitors from interstate and overseas to observe how authentic contemporary practices are achievable, even in smaller schools.
