A school in Adelaide's northern suburbs has been closed for deep cleaning and contact tracing amid fears of a possible COVID–19 exposure.
The decision was taken after a male student from Elizabeth Vale School came into close contact with someone who has tested positive to COVID-19 during school holidays.
However, SA Premier Steven Marshall later confirmed the school will reopen tomorrow after SA Health confirmed that the student did not attend school over the holiday period.
Meanwhile, South Australian authorities are restricting the movements of cross-border community members after a confirmed case of COVID–19 in the north-western Victorian city of Mildura.
There are also concerns after an 81-year-old man who attended Modbury Hospital in the state’s northeast contracted the Delta variant of COVID-19. The man has since been taken to the Royal Adelaide Hospital.
“He has been out and about in the community, and we now need to identify those people who could have potentially been in contact with him,” Premier Marshall said.
The Delta variant continues to spread quickly in Victoria and NSW, which now have 81 and 1,200 active cases respectively.
This morning, Victorian Premier, Daniel Andrews, extended that state’s lockdown for an unspecified period of time, saying it was too early to lift restrictions while cases are continuing to transmit in the community.
The move comes as NSW enters its third week of lockdown. The state recorded its third straight day of triple digit case numbers after NSW Health identified 98 cases including two acquired from overseas.
Queensland has recorded no new cases of COVID-19 for the third day in a row.
