As 2023 draws to a close, The Educator takes a moment to reflect on a year that has been both challenging and transformative for Australia's K-12 education sector.
This year, education ministers have been working hard on several major reforms to Australia’s education system, including strengthening initial teacher education, reducing administrative workloads, overhauling early childhood education, and raising the status of the teaching profession.
National commitments were also made to regulate mobile phone use in government schools, help schools safely navigate rapid changes in Artificial Intelligence, teach young people about the harms posed by vaping and improving student wellbeing amid the growing youth mental health crisis.
In the face of these reforms, the resilience and adaptability of school staff have been nothing short of remarkable.
The Australian Education Awards 2023, a highlight of the year, celebrated these qualities, showcasing exceptional talent across the education system. The Educator has also recognised the excellence inherent in Australia’s schools through our Rising Stars, Hot List, Most Influential Educators, 5-Star Service Providers, 5-Star Sustainable Schools, 5-Star Innovative Schools, and Best in Education initiatives.
