Private schools claim being ‘underfunded’

The peak body for independent schools has released modelling saying the private school system is underfunded.

    Yes, on average the independent school system is under-funded. In fact, some independent schools receive less than half the government funding that their Schooling Resource Standard (SRS) would recommend. This is clearly not fair or appropriate: the students in these schools deserve to have their government funding increased just as much as any student in an under-funded government or Catholic systemic school.

    This doesn't justify the fact that a few other independent schools are so greatly over-funded -- in some ways it makes it worse.

    It is also important to note that, on an average basis across Australia, independent schools are closer to the SRS than either Catholic systemic schools or government schools.
