Implementation of the full six years of Gonski funding will give students the same real prospect of educational success, regardless of their family circumstances, say teachers.

My major concern here is that the St Vincent de Paul Society will find that its pro-Gonski, anti-poverty message is at ideological odds with the far more conservative right-wing message of the National Catholic Education Commission, whose Executive Director, Ross Fox, is a former member of the right-wing Centre for Independent Studies and a former Coalition election candidate, who believes in the kind of guff that states that a 'rising tide floats all ships'.

Moreover, this person was appointed to his position by Australia's only Jesuit Bishop, Bishop Greg O'Kelly, who states that he is committed to the teaching emerging from his Order, The Society of Jesus, as well as of his fellow Jesuit, Pope Francis, that the poor require a 'preferential option', when it comes to economic decision-making. What gives and who, indeed, is to be believed in this unseemly fracas?
