Schools should offer students options when it comes to wearing school uniforms, says a senior lecturer and former school teacher.

A school in Wide Bay in Queensland has recently introduced a 'formal' uniform and a 'casual' uniform - the formal is a suite of clothes (skirt, shorts, trousers, shirt, blouse) and the casual is a polo and shorts. The only restriction is the you cannot mix and match casual and formal; the formal can be worn in any combination (ie blouse and shorts, or shirt and skirt etc etc) . Problem solved.
